Located a leisurely ten minute stroll from the centre of Bedford, d’Parys is a delightful boutique hotel and restaurant beloved by both visitors and locals alike. An extraordinary renovation of this late Victorian building has resulted in an eye catching mix of sleek contemporary design and elegant 19th century style. The 14 boutique-style bedrooms are named after Charles Well’s local beers and the charm of the Victorian era come through in the freestanding rolltop baths found in each room as well as dressing tables, old-style sinks, eclectic furniture and period details from the original era. Modern comfort is not neglected – expect hand sprung mattresses, Egyptian cotton linen, roll-top baths, monsoon power showers, flatscreen TVs, Nespresso machines, iPod adapters and free Wi-Fi. The large and airy dining room and bar, with exposed brick, the original Victorian tiles, is inviting with a casual, informal atmosphere. British classics with a twist such as Ale Pie, Red Lentil Moussaka, Slow Roast Pork Belly and Rib Eye are prominent on the menu – comfort food at its best. The city bar is one of Bedford’s finest spots for a tipple and there’s great cask beer from the local Well’s Brewery plus a wine selection of wines, including fantastic selection of vintages from New Zealand. If you are planned a special occasion, ask about private dining in the Library, which holds up to 22 guests. We also recommend a stop in Molly’s Tuck Shop which serves 40 varieties of traditional sweets and scrumptious artisanal gelato.
