The Wellington at Welwyn is a handsome medieval inn which seamlessly blends old and new together. Fully restored after suffering fire damage in 2009, all the charm and character of its heritage has been carefully retained whilst a new and stylish contemporary element has been introduced. The 5-star Inn designation and Rosette from the AA have confirmed what many already knew - The Wellington rose from the ashes better than ever. The new restaurant is, in their own words, 'funkier' than before, and there's now a fabulous terrace and al fresco dining under a stylish orange sail awning. Giant blackboards display the generous choice of specials, which change monthly. Head Chef John Beardsworth's British menu includes such dishes as the Wellington fillet burger and saffron baked lamb shank. The 'Welly' is rightfully proud of its relationship with world-renowned winemakers d'Arenberg whose imaginatively named wines include the Derelict Vineyard and the Laughing Magpie. The stylish bedrooms are outstanding - each one unique and inventively designed and furnished. You'll find original oak beams, bare cedar wood floors and antique furnishings. You'll also experience contemporary fabrics, king-sized beds, free standing bath tubs and monsoon showers. There are also Nespresso tea and coffee making facilities and iPod docking stations as well as Wi-Fi. This place has a distinctive flavour all of its own, there's flair and imagination in every detail.
