Presentation :

Tucked away amid the rolling beauty of the South Downs between Eastbourne and Lewes, Crossways Hotel is an absolute gem of a Georgian country house. This 4-star restaurant with rooms has been owned and run by Clive James and David Stott for over 25 years, and they have created a warm and friendly atmosphere that makes one feel more like a valued guest welcomed into a private home than hotel client. The service is personal and thoughtful, and many of the guests are repeat visitors – always a sure sign that a hotel is doing things right. The individually designed bedrooms are all wonderfully comfortable with thoughtful touches such as fresh milk in the fridge, a selection of books and free Wi-Fi. For families or those travelling in a group, the Wishing Well self catering cottage just across the road sleeps four.  The charming gardens (and gazebo) surrounding the hotel are a perfect place to relax during fine weather. A highlight of any stay at Crossways is dinner in the celebrated 2 AA Rosette restaurant. The owners have been in the restaurant business for over 30 years and they care passionately about the food they serve, and David’s cooking is imaginative and delicious. Ingredients are sourced locally, with meat and lamb coming mostly from Stone’s Cross butchers, the fresh catch of the day from Hastings, seasonal game from local estates and fresh eggs from just down the road. Crossways Hotel’s location only 15 minutes from Glyndebourne makes it very popular with music lovers during the season and special breaks are available for those attending the festivals. Walkers are also perfectly catered for – the South Downs Way is nearby and the view out over the Channel and the Seven Sisters cliffs are unforgettable. Clive and David can recommend a variety of local walks, including a stroll over to the Long Man of Wilmington, a 226 foot high hill figure cut into the chalky turf only a half mile away, or a longer walk down the Cuckmere Valley to Alfriston. Shoppers will enjoy the antiques in Lewes and the boutiques of Brighton and Eastbourne.
